Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen Review
This Pilot Vanishing point fountain pen review is one that I am happy to write.
Because compared to more expensive fountain pens from such leading brands as Pelikan, Mont Blanc, Cross, Lamy, Waterman and others this pen is a real gem.
I rate it one of the most underrated fountain pens on the market and have no hesitation in recommending that you treat yourself with one-you will not regret it.
I received my Pilot vanishing point about 7 years ago and was not impressed initially. But 7 years of trouble free, leak free writing later I would not swop it for any other pen on the market.
What I Like About the Pilot Vanishing Point
What I really like about this pen is, in no particular order-
- The point or nib retracts fully inside the pen when not in use
- There is a huge range of custom nibs available for it
- I have had my pen for 7 years and it has never leaked
- It can be used equally well by both left and right handers which can not be said for other fountain pens
- The ink reservoir is very ample
- It is a very attractive pen
- The black version with rhodium accents is particularly nice
- It writes incredibly well and is really reliable and functional with a push o fthe button protruding or retracting the nib
- It is great value at less than $150 which is half the price of other high end pens
- It has a lovely smooth ink flow
- Very comfortable to hold, especially if you are writing for a period of time as I do
- It has been completely trouble free for me for 7 years.
As I write this post the Pilot Vanishing point retractable fountain pen, the black version with rhodium accents and medium nib (60242) is on sale at a 20% discount off the list price with a saving of $34.

The Vanishing Point pen was originally launched in Japan in the 1960s and was called “Capless”. This pen disappeared in the 60s but reappeared as the Vanishing Point in the 70s and James Bond apparently sported a Namiki branded version of the Pilot Vanishing Point at one stage.
Of all the fountain pens that I have I would rate the Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen to be the most underrated and surprising for it’s users.
